Back to Tea School

It's time to go back to tea school on Thursday, August 29th, from 5-7pm. Join us as we explore the world of Camellia sinensis, the leaf that has found its way into our cups for centuries, and how terroir and production shapes its flavor. In this class, you'll have the opportunity to taste tea from each of the six major categories, learning how to store, brew, and appreciate each along the way.

This class offers a primer to all things matcha, from its rich history in Japan to the current health claims, and how to make it at home. Whether it’s your first time picking up a tea whisk or you’re a seasoned matcha drinker, join us to taste through three different preparations of this unique neon-green tea powder: usucha (the thin, frothy style), koicha (thick style), and a shaken iced matcha.

Public Tea Tasting | Nepal Tea Stories

Hello friends! Join us on Thursday, August 15th, for an evening of unusual Nepalese teas. We will taste three different lots from our friends at the beautiful Jun Chiyabari Tea Garden, while sharing photos and stories from our latest sourcing trip to Nepal.

Pu-erh Tea Tasting

Join us next Thursday, July 25th, for an in-depth tasting and discussion featuring several pu-erhs from our collection. Pu-erh is a category of fermented tea made in Yunnan Province, China, with the leaves often compressed into shapes, and aged; this process mellows and refines the teas' character, revealing different flavors and fragrances over time. This is a great opportunity to sample some of our favorites, including the Folk Art Bingcha, Tsunami Daxue Bingcha, and Hui Wei Bingcha, and to appreciate each tea's evolution through multiple infusions.

And if you find a pu-erh you love, we'll also have some and other IPOT goods available for purchase!
